Nick Brascetta joined the Terrapin wrestling program as an assistant coach in May 2019 and will be entering his sixth season with Maryland in 2024-25. Ahead of the 2024-25 season, Brascetta was promoted to Associate Head Coach.
Brascetta has made his name as an elite recruiter and was a massive part in bringing the eighth-ranked 2021 recruiting class to College Park, led by Braxton Brown, Jaxon Smith and Ethen Miller.
Throughout both the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, Brascetta worked closely with the aforementioned trio along with Kal Miller, all of whom were NCAA qualifiers the past two seasons.
At the 2023 NCAA Championships, the five qualifiers (including heavyweight Jaron Smith) the highest number since 2014. All five guys remained in competition on the second day of tournament action, the most since 2010. Additionally, the 2022-23 team finished with 10 dual wins, the most since the 2012-13 campaign.
Prior to coming to College Park, Md., Brascetta spent two seasons as an assistant coach at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he helped lead UTC to the 2019 regular season Southern Conference title. He also guided Tanner Smith to 2019 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year honors and Bryce Carr to 2018 Southern Conference Wrestler of the Year honors.
He joined UTC in 2016-17 as the Coordinator of Student-Athlete Development. In three seasons he coached 10 NCAA qualifiers and six Southern Conference individual champions.
Brascetta is a 2016 graduate of Virginia Tech where he was a three-time All-American and four-time NCAA qualifier for the Hokies. He finished third at the 2016 NCAA Championships at 157 pounds. He was also a three-time ACC Champion during his career at Virginia Tech.
A native of Graham, Ohio, Brascetta was the ACC Rookie of the Year in 2012 after winning the league title at 149 pounds. He repeated his ACC crown and placed eighth at the NCAAs in 2013, before redshirting in 2014. He won another ACC title at 157 in 2015 and went on to finish fourth at the NCAAs.
He earned his degree in Accounting at Virginia Tech and received his MBA from UTC in 2019.
Brascetta and his wife Ashley have two sons, Victor and Zeke.
